The Soviet Peace Foundation is a mass public organization inwhich Soviet public organizations,
labor collectives andindividual citizens participated on a voluntary basis. It was established in 1961. About 100 million people participated inthe replenishment of the Fund. Among the Foundation's tasks were to promote the development of ties and contacts between the Soviet public and foreign organizations and movements fighting for peace, national independence and freedom, the development of friendship and cooperation between peoples, the prohibition of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, and the achievement of general and complete disarmament. The Foundation provided financial assistance to victims ofimperialist aggression, genocide, and natural disasters.
The International Union of Charitable and Humanitarian Public Associations "SOVIET PEACE
FOUNDATION", a peacekeeping charitable non-governmental organization, returned its
historical name in 2020. From 1992 to 2020, it was called the International Association of Peace
Foundations. It has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social
Council.
The International Union of Charitable and Humanitarian Public Associations "SOVIET PEACE
FOUNDATION" is a non-governmental organization established by Soviet public organizations
as the Soviet Peace Foundation in 1961. In 1991, by the decision of the founders, the Soviet
Peace Foundation was reorganized into the International Association of Peace Foundations, and
by the decision of conference No. 8 in 2019, the historical name was returned to the Union, and
in November 2020 the Union became known again as the Soviet Peace Foundation. The Soviet
Peace Foundation shares the goals and objectives of the United Nations, the specialized
organizations of the United Nations system, and its mission is to unite:
